Young children and an accompanying adult join others for child-directed free play in a stimulating age-specific environment. Thoughtfully chosen play supplies and equipment encourage imagination and discovery, with open-ended toys including wheeled vehicles, wood blocks, a play kitchen and a dress up corner. Preschool Play & Art features a preschool library, storytime, and art projects.
Each week focuses on a different theme such as colors, nature, animals, and the alphabet. Art projects are based on the weekly theme, and include paint, collage, dough, crayons and more.

Holiday Lights

Be merry and bright and join the Battery Park City Parks Conservancy for an evening of seasonal cheer at the annual HOLIDAY LIGHTS tree lighting! BPCPC is an environmentally friendly organization that strives to promote and maintain the health of our trees for future generations. With this in mind, we will be lighting
one of the majestic Cedars of Lebanon growing along South Cove.

An outdoor Menorah will be lit at sundown on Tuesday, December 16th.

The a cappella group THE ACCIDENTALS will perform seasonal songs and encourage the audience to sing along.

Complimentary holiday cookies will be served, as well as hot cider and hot chocolate. A special visitor from the North Pole will also join the festivities…

Share the joy! Please join others in bringing a new unwrapped gift or article of clothing for the many children and teens living in NYC shelters. Gifts will be wrapped and distributed by Stockings With Care.

Inspired by nature use pine cones, twigs, holly berries and much more to make winter wonderland ornaments such as miniature bird nest for your mantle, shelf or tree. Cut out lovely snowflake garlands to deck your halls. Hand print wrapping paper with a beautiful assortment of stencils, inks and papers that are appropriate for many holidays and traditions.

The workshop is designed for adults, teens, and children 5 and older.

Come to Battery Park City Parks Conservancy’s new adult fitness program, Boot Camp, with instructor Alan Courtenay. The classes are adaptable for all fitness levels. The instructor strives to keep all workouts interactive, fun and exciting. The equipment used in the class include: bands, rope, kettle-bells and more.

Alan Courtenay is the CEO/Founder of NYC Boot Camps and recipient of the High Impact Trainer of the Year award. His professional career in fitness training and management spans over eight years during which he has trained adults of all ages and physical condition and taught physical education to children with the New York Department of Education for the prior five years.

Enjoy summertime blues against the backdrop of spectacular sunsets over the Hudson River on five Thursday evenings in July and August at BPCPC’s RIVER & BLUES concert series. JULY 10: Christian Scott Quintet. Grammy-nominated trumpet sensation Christian Scott plays original compositions with one foot deep in his New Orleans roots, and the other leaping forward with the Rock and Hip Hop influence of his NYC home.

July 17: The Wiyos. Critically-acclaimed band, The Wiyos, combine their “old-timey” rambling blues, folk and swing with a touch of psychedelic surf music to create a truly unique style that’s pure Americana.

July 24: Heritage Blues Quintet. Heritage Blues Quintet’s music is an inspiring testament to the enduring power, possibilities and boundless beauty of African-American music.

July 31: Bettye LaVette. Bettye LaVette, described by The New York Times as “rivaling Aretha Franklin as her generation’s most vital soul singer,” will perform at River & Blues.

The Community Center at Stuyvesant High School’s beautiful half Olympic-sized swimming pool is Downtown Manhattan’s convenient and affordable way to beat the summer heat. Enjoy lap swimming and dedicated times for adults-only and family swim. Pool-Only Membership and Day Passes are available.

In July and August the Community Center offers Learn to Swim classes for youth and adults. All ages are welcome to learn a useful skill, get a lot of exercise and have fun! Classes are led by an American Red Cross certified CPR and Water Safety Instructor.
